You will find authenticity and connection when you work with me. These values form the foundation of my therapeutic approach, fostering trust, rapport, empowerment, validation and growth. My goal is to create a nurturing and supportive environment where you can explore, heal, and flourish.

I offer therapy to individuals from all walks of life, providing compassionate support and expertise across a wide range of issues. My focus includes helping adults navigate life transitions, manage mental health challenges, and address relationship issues. With a background as a licensed addiction counselor, I bring specialized support for those facing substance use issues.

I am a perinatal therapist and am dedicated to supporting women during the perinatal period, offering personalized guidance and therapeutic care. Whether preparing for pregnancy, coping with fertility challenges, navigating pregnancy, adjusting to postpartum life, postpartum depression, or embracing new roles as parents, I am here to provide understanding and tailored support every step of the way.

I embrace a holistic perspective that integrates mind, body, and soul. Alongside traditional therapy modalities, like CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, and solution focused, I also offer the opportunity for somatic therapy and auricular acupuncture. These approaches complement our work by addressing physical and energetic aspects of healing, supporting your journey towards balance and wellness.

When you step into my office, you enter a space with respect, attentiveness, value, and support. My commitment is to facilitate profound and enduring positive changes for your journey through life.

Why Colleen became a therapist

My journey into therapy began with my own struggles. From adolescence into adulthood, I faced challenges with anxiety, depression, and ADHD, despite outward appearances of a perfect life. Through this journey, I’ve discovered the power of holistic wellness practices. I utilized exercise, mindfulness, yoga, meditation, acupuncture, and most importantly, talk therapy in order to heal. These varied tools provided me with the flexibility to adapt and grow, discovering what worked best at different stages of my life.

My personal experience strongly influences my belief in the effectiveness of therapy. I credit my growth and resilience today to a pivotal moment when I courageously chose vulnerability, seeking professional help and support. This experience solidified my commitment to empowering others on their own paths of healing and personal discovery.

If you’re ready to explore your path to wellness, I invite you to take the courageous step of reaching out. Together, we can create a supportive space where you feel heard, understood, and empowered to achieve your goals.

About me

Originally from the Midwest, I fell in love with Colorado’s mountains and sunshine when I came here for college. After graduation, I made the easy decision to stay. Now, I’m just another transplant enjoying life in this beautiful state.

When I’m not working, I practice and teach yoga, which keeps me balanced physically, mentally, and emotionally. I enjoy staying active outdoors with my partner and our dog, Chuck, who’s always eager to lead the way. Being an extrovert and social butterfly, I love spending time with friends, exploring new experiences because let’s face it, life’s too short not to add a little adventure!

Perinatal Therapist for Women:
Guiding You Through Every Step of Your Journey

Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders are among the most common complications that occur in pregnancy or in the first 12 months after delivery. Despite the negative effects on maternal, obstetric, birth, offspring, partner, and family outcomes, perinatal mental health disorders often remain under-diagnosed, and untreated or under-treated.

Working with a Perinatal Therapist to Understanding The Perinatal Period

The perinatal period, encompassing the time from conception through the first year after birth, is a journey filled with anticipation, joy, and significant life changes. For many women, this period also brings a myriad of emotions, challenges, and transitions that can feel overwhelming. Perinatal Therapist- Supporting Women before, during and after pregnancy

Postpartum Depression, Anxiety & Perinatal Therapy

Early intervention is critical in managing postpartum depression and supporting maternal mental health. The sooner a mother seeks help, the sooner she can begin to recover. Unfortunately, many women do not seek help due to stigma, fear, or lack of awareness about PPD. This delay can exacerbate symptoms and make recovery more challenging.

What is Perinatal Depression?

Perinatal depression, including postpartum depression, occurs more often than most people realize – in fact, it is the most common complication of childbearing.  Studies show that 1 in 5 women or 1 in 10 men may experience depression during the perinatal period. However, the numbers are likely higher and increase for high-stress parenting groups.

A perinatal therapist can help you to understand the symptoms, the underlying feelings, and will use techniques to help you get through this time of not feeling fully like yourself.

Symptoms of Perinatal Depression

Symptoms can start anytime during the perinatal period, but they can be different for everyone. Symptoms may include:

  • Feelings of anger or irritability & rage
  • Lack of interest in the baby
  • Appetite and sleep disturbance
  • Crying and sadness
  • Feelings of guilt, shame or hopelessness
  • Loss of interest, joy or pleasure in things you used to enjoy
  • Possible thoughts of harming the baby or yourself

Perinatal Therapist

A perinatal therapist specializes in mental health issues related to the perinatal period, which includes pregnancy, childbirth, the first year postpartum, as well as infertility. Perinatal therapists have specific training and experience in addressing the emotional and psychological challenges that arise during this critical time.

For people experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, and more, our therapists/counselors also provide therapy to help you acclimate and become more comfortable in situations that cause you distress.

As humans, we naturally wish not to suffer. We typically try to escape anxious feelings as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, we rarely succeed at truly getting rid of those awful feelings. Suppressing them, denying them or distracting ourselves with other activities might work for a moment, but these are temporary fixes at best. The anxiety inevitably returns, often with even greater intensity. We refer to this dynamic as the cycle of avoidance.

You cannot fix a problem by avoiding it; you must instead learn how to change your relationship to it. Symptoms from anxiety, depression, trauma, and stress can be lessened when properly addressed with the help of a therapist. Therapy helps break the cycle of avoidance by teaching you how to face the anxiety head-on.

During the course of therapy, you’ll learn skills to manage how you feel, including how to work with your nervous system. You will learn to recognize your triggers and identify your internal warning signs that the anxiety cycle has started. You will learn to disengage from negative thoughts and treat them as information, rather than absolute truths, so they have less influence over your behavior. You will also learn acceptance skills that allow you to feel the physical symptoms of anxiety as they occur in your body without trying to change them or run from them.
