Meet Emily
Group Practice Owner/Therapist

Emily Garcia, LCSW- Group Practice Owner

I’m not currently accepting new clients and am working with clients from a waitlist. Despite my current waitlist, I encourage you to schedule a consultation with me. As the owner of the practice, I’m committed to personally assisting you in finding the perfect match from our team of expert and vetted therapists at Tribe.

I love working with adults who have gone through difficult times in life and are fed up with feeling unworthy, frustrated, and having a sense of shame that randomly pops up. I am skilled at supporting adult children from dysfunctional families. Our focus isn’t on blaming parents or caregivers, but it is about working to understand the patterns that we were taught early in life in order to change your life for the better.

People who are willing to accept responsibility for their role in life’s challenges and do something different are my kind of people. Together, we will talk about mindset, books, and podcasts. I will help you find practical tools you can use in order to change your life.

Why Emily became a therapist

What you should know about me personally is that I chose to become a therapist because therapy has been profoundly invaluable in my own journey from adversity to healing. I know what it is like to be vulnerable and sit across from the therapist on the other side of the room.

I care deeply about helping others who feel unworthy, stuck, and lonely.  I do this work because I strongly believe that everyone deserves a skilled, fierce ally to support them when life gets tough and that we are all capable of becoming stronger through change.

For as long as I can remember, I have identified with the pain I saw in others and with the yearning for something better. I have been deeply inspired by models and examples of people who didn’t just survive but thrived despite their circumstances.

You can read interviews with Emily in Shoutout Colorado, Canvas Rebel, and Voyage Denver.

Why I love my Team

At Tribe, I have brought together a group of therapists who also care deeply about others. Our team is committed to learning and growing in order to provide our clients with the most effective support.

When I bring a therapist onto my team, I always ask myself, “Is this someone who I would want to see for my own therapy or that I would trust for a family member?” The answer is yes, for all of the therapists on the Tribe team. It is my belief that you are in good hands when you work with any of our dedicated therapists.

For people experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, and more, our therapists/counselors also provide therapy to help you acclimate and become more comfortable in situations that cause you distress.

As humans, we naturally wish not to suffer. We typically try to escape anxious feelings as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, we rarely succeed at truly getting rid of those awful feelings. Suppressing them, denying them or distracting ourselves with other activities might work for a moment, but these are temporary fixes at best. The anxiety inevitably returns, often with even greater intensity. We refer to this dynamic as the cycle of avoidance.

You cannot fix a problem by avoiding it; you must instead learn how to change your relationship to it. Symptoms from anxiety, depression, trauma, and stress can be lessened when properly addressed with the help of a therapist. Therapy helps break the cycle of avoidance by teaching you how to face the anxiety head-on.

During the course of therapy, you’ll learn skills to manage how you feel, including how to work with your nervous system. You will learn to recognize your triggers and identify your internal warning signs that the anxiety cycle has started. You will learn to disengage from negative thoughts and treat them as information, rather than absolute truths, so they have less influence over your behavior. You will also learn acceptance skills that allow you to feel the physical symptoms of anxiety as they occur in your body without trying to change them or run from them.
