Rachel is a child therapist who specializes in helping children ages 5 to 13 heal from trauma, work through grief & loss, and improve anxiety, depression, and self-esteem. She is a Certified Synergetic Play Therapist, and is trained in EMDR and other approaches tailored to children’s needs.
Why Rachel became a therapist
I have always found kids to be amazing and brilliant. And I also vividly remember the experience of being a child, having big feelings, and not knowing what to do with those feelings or how to be kind to myself when experiencing challenges. It has been transformative for me to have unconditional, judgment-free spaces where I could express myself and my feelings and figure out who I am and who I am becoming. I love having the opportunity to meet children at their developmental level and provide them with that sort of space, where I can help them learn how to move through their experiences and express themselves, whether that is through play, stories, art or words.
As a mom myself, I also know that the journey of parenting comes with its own unique joys and challenges. Caregivers are the most important people in a child’s life, and I am also here to support you as you support your child.
As a child therapist, I practice within the model of Synergetic Play Therapy, a researched-informed model of play therapy blending the therapeutic power of play with nervous system regulation, interpersonal neurobiology, physics, attachment, mindfulness, and therapist authenticity. I was trained in this model over the course of a year and became certified.

Child Therapist: Supporting Your Child’s Growth and Emotional Health
Why a Child Therapist
Can Make a Difference
When children face emotional or behavioral challenges, it can be difficult for them to express what they’re going through. A child therapist is trained to help kids navigate these difficulties in a way that is safe, supportive, and tailored to their unique needs. By working with a therapist, your child can gain the tools they need to manage their feelings, develop healthy coping strategies, and thrive in their everyday life.
The Benefits of Working
with a Child Therapist
Engaging your child with a therapist offers numerous benefits that can have a lasting impact on their overall wellbeing:
- Emotional Regulation: A child therapist helps children understand and manage their emotions, leading to better emotional regulation and reduced outbursts or anxiety.
- Improved Communication: Therapy encourages children to express their thoughts and feelings in constructive ways, improving their communication skills at home and school.
- Building Resilience: Through therapy, children learn to cope with challenges and develop resilience, which is essential for their long term emotional health.
- Strengthened SelfEsteem: A therapist can help your child build confidence and a positive selfimage, which are crucial for their development.
- ProblemSolving Skills: Child therapists teach children how to approach problems with a solutionfocused mindset, empowering them to handle difficulties more effectively.
How a Child Therapist Supports Parents
A child therapist doesn’t just work with the child; they also collaborate with parents to create a supportive environment at home. This partnership helps parents:
- Understand Their Child’s Needs: Therapy provides insights into what their child is experiencing and how best to support them.
- Implement Strategies at Home: Therapists offer practical strategies and tools that parents can use to reinforce what their child is learning in therapy.
- Foster Positive Changes: By working together, parents and therapists can create a consistent approach to addressing the child’s challenges, leading to positive changes in behavior and emotional health.

How Play Therapy Helps
At Tribe, we understand that healing comes in many forms, and for our youngest clients, play is their natural language. That’s why we specialize in play therapy, as a form of child therapy, a powerful approach that harnesses the innate creativity and resilience of children to address emotional and behavioral challenges. Through the therapeutic power of play, we help children navigate their inner worlds, build coping skills, and cultivate a foundation for lifelong emotional wellbeing.
Why Play Therapy?
Play is the language of childhood, a universal mode of expression that transcends words. In the safe and nurturing environment of our play therapy sessions, children are free to explore, express, and process their thoughts and feelings through play. From imaginative storytelling to creative art projects, each activity is carefully designed to meet the unique needs of the child, fostering healing and growth along the way.
Play therapy provides children with a non-threatening outlet to express complex emotions that they may struggle to articulate verbally. Through play, they can explore their feelings of anger, sadness, fear, and joy in a supportive environment, gaining insight and understanding along the way.
Life is full of challenges, but with play therapy, children learn valuable coping skills to navigate the ups and downs with resilience. From problem-solving to emotional regulation, the therapeutic play process equips children with the tools they need to face life’s obstacles with confidence and courage.
Every child deserves to feel valued and worthy, and play therapy helps foster a strong sense of self-esteem and self-worth. Through positive reinforcement and encouragement, children learn to believe in themselves, embrace their strengths, and celebrate their unique qualities.
Healthy relationships are the cornerstone of a fulfilling life, and play therapy helps children develop essential social skills to navigate their interactions with peers, family members, and authority figures. By practicing empathy, communication, and cooperation in the context of play, children build stronger, more meaningful connections with others.
For children who have experienced trauma or adverse experiences, play therapy offers a gentle and effective path to healing. Through guided play activities, children can process their traumatic memories, reduce their emotional distress, and build resilience in the face of adversity.
